Recommendation (parking lane stripes) Staff recommends painting the parking lanes. The parking lanes
would deter motorists from bypassing on the right and also clearly indicate the parking area for
overflow cars from the Seminary (including during the farmers market).

Recommendation (bump outs) – Staff does not recommend the installation of “bump outs” in this
location. There are no accidents at this location in the last 5 years. If the bus company is capable of
dropping off kids at the appropriate location no street crossing is required.

Area 12 – Consider no parking on the south side of 6th Street NW adjacent to EZ Stop.

Summary – During the summer of 2016 the City Council approved EZ Stop/Minoco site improvements.
Along with this review it was noted that parking on 6th Street NW near Old Highway 8 restricts the flow
of traffic. Adding no parking signs on the south side of 6th St was recommended by a resident in the
area.

Recommendation – Install no parking signs on the south side of 6th Street NW adjacent to EZ
Stop/Minoco. Staff agrees that parking on both sides of 6th Street NW at this location restricts the flow
of traffic to and from Old Highway 8 for both motorists and emergency apparatus. The no parking will
result in a loss of approximately 4 parking spaces which are generally occupied by tenants at the
adjacent apartment building.

Attachments:
Resolution 11‐110
Robin Lane Public Safety Follow up 1‐30‐12
October 13, 2016 Robin Lane Email Correspondence
Meeting Minutes from the October 3, 2016 Columbia Heights Traffic Commission Meeting
Appendix A ‐ State Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Guidelines
Appendix B – New Brighton Street Light Policy
