3 <br />On Friday, December 17th units were dispatched to a duplex in the 1000 block of <br />Thorndale Avenue for a report of smoke in a dwelling. Upon arrival crews determined a <br />hot water heater had been mounted on a shelf and for unknown reasons fell off the shelf <br />causing the hot water heater to begin venting steam. Units were able to prevent further <br />damage to the structure. Fire Marshal Lamotte and Code Enforcement Official Scott <br />Gigrich conducted follow-up with the homeowner to ensure heat was restored to the <br />residence. <br /> <br />On Friday December 17th, with the extreme cold setting in the Fire Division and Police <br />Officers were dispatched to 804 West County Road D for a report of two occupants stuck <br />on their balcony in the cold. Units arrived on scene and were able to safely remove the <br />frigid occupants. <br /> <br />On December 18th, firefighters quickly doused a bedroom fire in a house on the corner of <br />Silver Lake Road and 17th Terrace NW, limiting fire damage to the room of origin. The <br />occupants of the residence were able to safely evacuate the structure, and there were no <br />injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire was unintentional and not <br />suspicious in nature. Public Works assisted with salting the roadway after the incident <br />due to the ice created from water used at the fire scene. <br /> <br /> <br />In the morning hours of December 19th, officers responded to the County Road D <br />apartments on report of a 35 year-old male who was found dead on the hallway floor of <br />his unit. The Medical Examiner and our Detectives are investigating, but there were no <br />initial signs of foul play. <br /> <br />Public Safety responded to several burglaries leading up to the New Year. On Friday <br />morning, an overnight burglary of the management office at Bramante’s Apartments on <br />West County Road D was reported.
