3 <br />The rescue efforts were not successful. <br /> <br />On January 26th, a business in town located a gun left in an employee’s jacket inside the <br />business. They gave the gun to NBPD to hold onto. Management would be terminating <br />the employee later this date and advise him where his gun is located to recover it. They <br />requested extra patrol due to the termination of this employee. <br /> <br />Also on January 26th, a business in town reported an employee was terminated for <br />possessing pornography on his company laptop. IT then found he was also possessing <br />child pornography on the company laptop. The laptop was turned over to officers and <br />Detectives will be investigating. <br /> <br />On January 29th, squads responded to the 200 block of County Road E2 on a report of a <br />black male who entered the store without the knowledge of the clerk. The suspect puts <br />on the counter a gas can, a black bag containing a large kitchen knife and a note <br />demanding money and Newport cigarettes. The suspect then enters the back employee <br />room where he steals the clerk’s wallet. He then hides and moves about the back room <br />for over 10 minutes while clerk helps customer, makes coffee, cleans rugs. etc. The clerk <br />eventually sees items from her wallet on the floor and discovers her wallet missing. At <br />this time, the clerk still does not know the suspect is still in the store. While calling 911, <br />the suspect flees out the back door and through the car wash. The clerk never sees the <br />suspect. This investigation is on-going. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />II. USE OF FORCE BY POLICE OFFICERS <br /> <br /> It is the policy of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety that officers exert no <br />more force than is reasonably necessary in the discharge of their licensed duty, and that <br />the use of deadly force is consistent with the law, training and our general orders. <br /> <br /> This section contains summary data of the use of force used by our police officers. A <br />Police Use of Force Report is completed by officers each time force or restraint is used in <br />the performance of their duties. This does not include the use of handcuffs during an <br />arrest or detention situation.
