and Mayor Johnson were also in attendance. Officer Matt Farmer will be our department liaison with
this group.

Director Paetznick noted some of our officers will join forces with Mounds View officers in forming
a basketball team and will play in the Northeast Youth and Family Services (NYFS) All Star
basketball game.

Director Paetznick noted Closest Unit Dispatching for Fire calls is expanding a little differently as
some calls have to go thru Hennepin County Dispatch. He also noted that Lake Johanna Fire Station
#1 is closing; however, he doesn’t see this having a significant impact for New Brighton.

Director Paetznick noted our two newest officers continue to do well in their field training programs.
One of our part-time PSO’s has accepted a full-time position with Public Works; he will be done
working for us the end of April and will start his new position on May 1.

Council Liaison
A. Council Report

Council Member Brian Strub noted the March 28 council meeting which included a welcome and
introduction for Trevor Hamdorf as Deputy Director.

Mayor Johnson stated things in New Brighton are going well. She noted that at tomorrow’s Work
Session, they will be selecting commissioners. This year, the city received many applications for the
city commissions; they will actually have to turn people away. They are also working on adding a
Youth Council or Commission; thanks to Commissioner Howard for his leadership with this. The
Youth Council members would probably be assigned to a commission but then also come back
together and meet as a youth group; they may also do service projects.

Mayor Johnson noted the Mayor of Shoreview has asked other suburban cities to ban the sale of
flavored tobacco.

The Neighborhood meetings have been going on and have been very dynamic and interactive. The
city will use this feedback to update the city’s Comprehensive Plan.

Commissioner Eichers asked Mayor Johnson about CTV and Comcast. Mayor Johnson noted that
CTV public access is afforded to New Brighton by Comcast and provide a certain amount of time for
free. Comcast is cutting how much free time is afforded so CTV may need to subsidize the
difference. Mayor Johnson noted the City likes CTV but may have to cut back on replays instead of
cutting back on programming.

Old Business

No old business.

New Business

No new business.
