Updates
A. Citizen Corps Council

No report.

Department Reports
A. Human Rights

No report.

B. Allina Health
Mr. Dave Matteson noted that Dr. Andrew Stevens is their new Associate Medical Director working
in partnership with Medical Director Charles Lick, MD. Dr. Stevens came from Indianapolis but
grew up in Minnesota. Dr. Stevens will focus on 1st Responder Education and Scene Response;
sometimes you need a doctor to respond to the scene of a call. Officers may see Dr. Stevens
responding to medical call scenes. Mr. Matteson hopes to get Dr. Stevens to a commission meeting.

Mr. Matteson noted Allina has trained police and fire in early March in the use of the ResQPUMP
device to assist with performing CPR on cardiac arrest victims. Allina obtained these via a grant and
we were able to put these in all of our front line squads.

Mr. Matteson noted he is looking to get 24-hour supervisor coverage in our area as well as utilizing
their software system to adjust ambulance postings as needed by utilizing day of week/time of day
historical data.

Mr. Matteson noted they assisted our department with EMR (Emergency Medical Responder)
training; formerly 1st Responder Training. This was a scenario based training which was very
beneficial.

C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)

Commissioner Allen reported VIPS had their monthly meeting on February 28 with 12 people in
attendance. There will be a blood drive on March 29 which with VIPS will help with.

The VIPS are always looking for new members. VIPS meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month at
the Public Safety Center in the Fire Training room. Deputy Director Hamdorf would be the point of
contact for persons interested in joining.

D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update

Director Paetznick noted tonight is one of the informational meetings for Fire Fighter applicants; the
other informational meeting will be Saturday morning. These meetings have been very helpful for
the applicants so they are fully aware of the required commitment that will be expected from our
volunteer fire fighters.

Director Paetznick noted the Faith Community Partnership group met two weeks ago and they saw
some new faces. This is an engaged group who want to dive in more on issues. Commissioner Boyd
