10

VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency
management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency
Response Teams (CERT).

IX. TRAINING

This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the
month.

The Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA) held their annual Executive
Training Institute (ETI) in Saint Cloud this week, with Director Paetznick and Deputy
Directors Olson and Hamdorf attending. Keynote presentations at this conference, which
focused on the theme of Leading in Turbulent Times, included several national speakers
who delivered information on the timely topics of Police Worn Body Cameras, Officer
Involved Shooting Response, Media Relations, Dealing with Mass Protests, Community
Engagement, Social Media, and a special closing message from Patty Wetterling.

As part of MCPA ETI, Director Paetznick “graduated” from the inaugural Advanced
Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) and Command Academy that has been meeting
regularly since last September. 25 chiefs from across Minnesota representing a broad
range of departments were selected last summer to participate in this new leadership
cohort that included professional learning groups. Director Paetznick had been assigned
to working with other chiefs on human resources issues, with a focus on police officer
recruitment and retention in the 21st century.

During the week of April 10th Firefighter Jeremy Berger and Kip Lamotte attended the
State Fire Marshals Conference. During the conference a demonstration of the
effectiveness of fire suppression sprinklers was performed.
