Police Worn Body Camera Draft Policy

Director Paetznick reviewed the League of Minnesota Cities Model Policy on Body-Worn
Cameras Policy; there are some requirements for the policy but there are also some options that
each law enforcement agency can opt for to best suite their department and community.

Director Paetznick noted that body worn cameras will just be another tool for the officers and
will not be the end all answer. Commissioner Allen asked who will wear body cameras.
Director Paetznick stated that Patrol and School Resource officers will wear body cameras.

There was discussion regarding the two areas of the model policy where options are available.
Commissioner Allen asked for the commissioners to get back to Director Paetznick on their
preference of policy options. Commissioner Ghouse inquired about inviting an agency to a
commission meeting who currently use body cameras. Director Paetznick noted that Columbia
Heights Police Department has a good report on their website regarding this topic.
