9

Detective Lochen signed a complaint against a 33 year old New Brighton resident for a
felony level Domestic Assault and a Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation that
occurred on or about August 19, 2017. The charges carry a Maximum sentence of 5 year
and/or a $10,000 fine for the Domestic Assault and the Strangulation charge carries a
maximum sentence of 3 years and/or $5,000 fine. (It should be noted that the suspect had
four qualifying arrests in the past ten years that enhanced the Domestic Assault charge to
a Felony)

In August, our VCET Officer worked with an agent from Homeland Security in listening
to jail calls of an inmate. While listening to the jail calls, our officer learned of $50,000
in cash that he had his 12-year old son stash for him. A search warrant was obtained and
they were able to locate $11,000 of the original 50K. Apparently after the suspect was
arrested, other people knew about the money and had been stealing from him while he is
locked up.

V. COMMUNITY POLICING AND CRIME AND FIRE PREVENTION
ACTIVITIES

This section contains information on our community policing, fire and crime prevention
activities.

On August 1, National Night Out was held with 126 registered block parties. A total of
65 public safety personnel and 32 vehicles were utilized to attend the block parties. A
total of 3,736 pounds of food and 1,882 pounds of school supplies were collected and
donated to the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf.
