USE OF FORCE BY POLICE OFFICERS <br /> <br />It is the policy of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety that officers exert no <br />more force than is reasonably necessary in the discharge of their licensed duty, and that <br />the use of deadly force is consistent with the law, training and our general orders. <br /> <br />This section contains summary data of the use of force used by our police officers. A <br />Police Use of Force Report is completed by officers each time force or restraint is used in <br />the performance of their duties. This does not include the use of handcuffs during an <br />arrest or detention situation. TRAFFIC SAFETY <br /> <br />The following information contains summaries of significant traffic safety and traffic <br />enforcement incidents during the month. <br /> <br />The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety recently provided the statistics for the Federal <br />Fiscal Year-End DWI Officer comparisons. For 2017 Officer Farmer was #1 in the State <br />for arrests as a DWI Officer, logging 257 total arrests. <br /> <br />New Brighton Police hosted the TZD Hi-Viz DWI Saturation on Saturday, October 14, <br />2017, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Eleven overtime funded officers and two volunteer reserve <br />officers focused on Interstate 35W, Old Hwy 8 and Silver Lake Road that yielded the <br />following: <br /> <br />• 115 traffic stops <br />• 4 people taken to jail <br />• 2 DWI arrests <br />• 7 drivers cited for DAR/DAS <br />• 2 vehicles towed <br />
