ProjeCt exPerienCe <br />< For full cutsheet, align sidebar to this guide <br />Community Planning <br />Mound, Minnesota <br />hkGi has worked with the City of mound since the firm created mound visions, an <br />expansive redevelopment plan to reinvent downtown mound. since that time hkGi <br />has also led the planning process for the 2006 Comprehensive plan, has served <br />as mound’s on-going municipal planner, written zoning ordinances, conducted <br />environmental reviews, and has planned and designed public space, streetscape, <br />and park improvements. <br />the City’s land use pattern is dominated by small residential lots, narrow street <br />rights-of-way and substantial areas of park commons characteristic of its history as <br />a lakeshore cabin community. the Comprehensive plan seeks to maintain the City’s <br />unique, mixed residential neighborhoods while also encouraging redevelopment <br />to create places for people to live, shop, work, and play in the downtown and <br />commercial corridors. <br />With a large amount and variety of natural resources, mound continues to prioritize <br />the protection of the numerous lakes, wetlands, rolling topography and mature <br />tree cover that give the community its recognizable character. hkGi’s planning and <br />design work includes realignment and streetscape improvements for County road <br />15, creation of the lost lake Canal and Greenway, and creation of veterans memorial <br />park and the mound transit Center. <br />As a developed community, Mound’s Land Use Plan encourages multi-family housing, commercial and <br />mixed-use redevelopment in and around Downtown, as well as the maintenance of the community’s <br />unique residential neighborhoods. <br />The redevelopment of Downtown Mound <br />has been guided by “Mound Visions,” a <br />plan which focus on creating a pedestrian- <br />oriented, mixed-use district. <br />Public improvements to support Downtown <br />redevelopment have included rerouting and <br />streetscape enhancements for County Road <br />15 and construction of a transit center and <br />Veterans Memorial Park. <br />Comprehensive plan proposal29
