Development in the surrounding
communities has created pressure for osseo’s downtown core and smaller, older
commercial areas. in combination with the 2007 Downtown redevelopment master
plan, also created by hkGi, the Comprehensive plan is intended to guide the City’s
ongoing redevelopment efforts and help the community achieve its vision and
principles, which includes preserving osseo’s small town character; enhancing its
downtown’s identity; stimulating redevelopment; creating an exceptional walking
and biking environment; and adding new housing choices.
less than a decade later the community has seen significant return on its
investments in both planning and public improvements. the downtown area was
recognized as one of 2015’s Great places in the twin Cities and new businesses
and housing have moved into the downtown area, including new housing types
that provide osseo with a greater range of lifecycle housing. new streetscape
improvements, also designed by hkGi, have improved the pedestrian environment
downtown and created gateways to help promote the district’s identity.
Comprehensive plan proposal31
