Hi Jason,

I'm am very concerned about how the city is handling the idea of changing the tennis
courts to pickleball courts. I feel like the city hasn't done its due diligence in this matter.
There is one meeting and the committee will vote??? I have talked with MANY
neighbors and friends who use the tennis courts and OPPOSE changing them. I have a
petition with 56 signatures so far. I will go out again today and add to that. I want the city
and the committee to know that there are MANY people who oppose changing the
courts.

This is what it says on the petition:
This petition is in regard to the city repurposing the two tennis courts at Hidden Oaks Park to six pickleball
courts. As neighbors of the tennis court (as well as those who come and use the courts), we are signing to
show the city that we strongly oppose the change. People play tennis daily on those courts. It isn’t like they’re
not being used. There is no need to convert these courts. We have been told that the noise of the pickleball
hitting the paddle is about 64.2 to 71.8 decibels, which is louder than the noise decibel limit for many
communities. Pickleball is a VERY loud sport and does not belong in a residential neighborhood.

WE STRONGLY OBJECT TO THE REPURPOSING OF THE HIDDEN OAKS
PARK TENNIS COURTS TO PICKLEBALL COURTS.
I'd like to know why the city is even considering using THESE courts? They are directly
located in a residential neighborhood with houses VERY close to the courts. The city
has pickleball courts in the service center. What about Hanson Park? That park isn't in a
residential neighborhood. What about the courts on 14th street at Pike Lake school
(although there is a house next to it)?

Pickleball may even just be a fad. Once the courts are converted they wouldn't be
converted back should the fad die.

That money could be used to resurface the tennis courts (which get used a LOT - I see
people playing often), or spruce up Hidden Oaks Park (which could really use some
new play equipment), or a community garden, or a dog park... You're willing to take
away tennis courts which are being used while that money could be used elsewhere.

I can send you the petition with all the signatures if that would help. I will bring it with me
tomorrow night also. I know neighbors and friends who use the court will be at the
meeting too.

Regards,
Michelle Veillette
612.247.8691
