Storm Water Re-Use Grant
Director of Community Assets and Development, Craig Schlichting

Director Craig Schlichting went through a Power Point Presentation with
Commissioners regarding the Storm Water Re-Use Grant relating to Lions
Park. Director Schlichting stated the grant is $150,000 and the money needed
for the Lions Park project is $200,000. The City would contribute the
remaining $50,000 that is needed to complete the project.
Project plans include creating an irrigation system that focuses on
reuse of surface water runoff to decrease the city’s use of groundwater
for irrigation. This would entail using tanks underground to store run off
water and a filtration system; including UV so that water could be re-
used for irrigation in the park.
Director Schlichting noted that there is $5,000 dedicated for the educational
piece of this project. He welcomed ideas from PREC on how to educate the
public regarding this project. We have until June of 2018 to complete this
project. The city will monitor this for 20 years so there is data that others can
use.

Commissioners commented on the project:
Expensive project; couldn’t pond water be used? Commissioner Justin
