2

stated he has worked in this area before and if pond water is used for
irrigation through aerating, the mist can be dangerous. That is why UV
is used to purify.

 Is it possible quotes could come in over the $200,000 budget? Director
Schlichting commented he sought a quote prior to receiving the grant
and feels it will not go over budget.

 What about maintenance? Director Schlichting stated the pumps do
require occasional maintenance and we would use money from the
storm water utility fund. There are also dredging funds and funds in
CIP and storm water management that could be used. We do not
anticipate a huge amount of maintenance with this system. Would
anticipate maintenance on the filters or the pumps but nothing
extensive. Tanks probably would be drained before winter to a point to
allow expansion of the material inside.

 How disruptive will the installation be to those accessing the park?
Director Schlichting did not feel it would be disruptive unless it was on
the northwest corner by the trail; there it could impact use of the
facility. Only see a possible inconvenience of possibly having to walk
on the grass or dirt during the actual installation process. There may
also be some disruption to the park when the playground is installed.
Use of the park is not until the fall of 2018.

Commissioner Justin inquired if commissioners had ideas about the educational
piece to this project.
 Perhaps a kiosk or “traveling” tripod piece that can be moved from location
to location; City Hall, Community Center, to public meetings, that will
explain the project.
 Perhaps have a small model of the project. Bring this to neighb orhood
meetings.
 A kiosk in the park would be good to help people understand the purpose
of it. Also, putting it in the newsletter would help raise awareness.
 Felt this is a good idea and an important topic in view of the bigger water
issue in New Brighton and how we are thinking about the water more
broadly in our community. Water is at the forefront of our community.
 Feels this is way too much money for the minimal value of this project.
Feels there may be more simple alternatives.
 Have a similar feeling about the expense of this project in a “water rich”
state, but because of the new Lions Park and how we are trying to make it
more environmentally based, just to see if this is viable at this small
location, is important. No longer can we allow the run off to go directly into
the lake. We are trying to help with water quality.
 Like the roving kiosk idea. Will always get complaints about expense, but
for the next generation it will show we are trying to take care of the water
quality issue. This will keep fertilizer and other impurities out of Long Lake
and improve water quality. It is a nice little experiment to see if it is viable.
If there could be a model showing how it is pumped and filtered through
