4 <br /> <br />Director Fink commented that Assistant Director Jason Hicks and herself, <br />along with a few Commission members, attended a listening session <br />hosted by Ramsey County on an off lease dog area master plan. If people <br />are interested in commenting, it can be done on Ramsey County’s <br />website. <br /> <br />D. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br /> Hosted our 6th Annual Thrive Expo, 38 Exhibitors and 3 educational <br />seminars. Had over 200 seniors learn how they can continue to thrive <br />and be healthy. <br /> 390 enjoyed our group fitness classes. <br /> Had 29 adult softball teams this fall, 350 participants. <br /> The youth leagues ran smoothly because we were able to use <br />Sunnyside school fields to replace the fields that are no longer <br />available at Hansen Park. <br /> At Lions Park with the rain, very little flooding. The field looks great. <br /> Hosted a buckthorn removal workshop. Fourteen participants attended <br />the 1 ½ long seminar given by Jim Veiman, Park Maintenance Worker- <br />Forester. <br /> 175 participants in swim lessons and water aerobics. <br /> Tues., Wed., Fri. Golfers coming to Brightwood Hills. Ken Manthis, Golf <br />Operations Manager received a grant and is using it to get golfers from <br />the Community Partners with Youth (CPY) program. These are young <br />people who may not otherwise get to golf, but are able to do it through <br />this grant. <br /> Numbers of golfers for September were up from last year. <br /> Gymnastics program had 68 participants attend on Mondays. <br /> Dance program has about 67 participants; ages 4 – 11. <br /> Martial Arts classes have 36 participating. <br /> Shut down Labor Day week we were able to refinish the gym floor, <br />moveable wall underwent annual maintenance, fire alarm system <br />tested, fitness equipment had preventative maintenance, chairs steam <br />cleaned. Huge thanks to Chris and his staff and Bill and his staff for <br />coordinating this work. <br /> New Brighton Lions Park playground install was the week of <br />September 25th . The park looks fantastic. At least a portion of the <br />playground floor will be poured next week. <br /> <br />VII.
