<br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting – November 2, 2016 <br />7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Chair Paul Zisla, Commissioners Bob Benke, Monica Garcia-Perez, Mike <br />Murlowski, Harry Carter and Graeme Allen <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Commissioners Kevin Peck <br /> <br />Staff Present: Janice Gundlach – Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning <br />Director and Craig Schlichting – Director of Community Assets & Development <br />Also Present: <br />Call to Order <br />Chairperson Zisla called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by Commissioner Carter, seconded by Chair Zisla to approve the agenda as presented. <br /> <br />Approved 6-0 <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Carter, seconded by Commissioner Garcia-Perez to approve the minutes from <br />the October 5, 2016 meeting. <br /> <br />Approved 6-0 <br /> <br />Report from Council Liaison <br />Schlichting noted the Council approved the improvements for Lions Park. He reported the grading work <br />would begin yet this fall. He described how the park expenses would be split between the City and <br />County. He reported the intent would be to open the park in 2018. Gundlach discussed the location of <br />the park along with the amenities included within the park. <br /> <br />Sense of Place <br />Chair Zisla stated he was in favor of the EDC making a motion and formal recommendation to the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />Gundlach reviewed a memo that would be presented to the City Council regarding sense of place, along <br />with the three key elements that were to be addressed by the EDC. <br /> <br />Commissioner Garcia-Perez suggested questions be included in the next Community Survey to address <br />sense of place. Gundlach stated she has brought this desire to City Manager Lotter. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding the Community Survey and potential questions that should be written into <br />the survey. <br /> <br />Chair Zisla believed the previous questions were too broad and did not fairly reflect on the efforts of the <br />EDC. <br /> <br />Commissioner Allen agreed.
