Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Chair Recommendation for Upcoming Year <br /> <br />City Code Section 2-64 states that “Each commission shall annually recommend a chairperson to the <br />Council for formal approval. The Council may appoint any member. The City Council shall annual <br />confirm a chairperson to represent each commission or committee. The chairperson will be expected to <br />provide leadership for the commission and to facilitate the conduct of regular meetings”. <br /> <br />Item 2 of this section lists the following criteria to be used when selecting the chairperson: <br />A. The member has a served a minimum of one term on the commission. <br />B. The member has a good attendance record and expects to be able to make all meetings while <br />serving as chairperson. <br />C. The member has demonstrated leadership and involvement in past activities of the commission. <br />D. The member has demonstrated the ability to understand and further the City’s overall mission, <br />specifically relating to the commission’s responsibilities. <br /> <br />Staff suggests a member of the Commission nominate another member. This nomination should be <br />seconded and voted on. The Commission may also choose to recommend a vice-chair, although there is <br />no City Code requirement. Staff will forward the recommended chairperson (and vice-chair if <br />applicable) to the City Council at a meeting in May. <br /> <br />Staff has attached the relevant City Code sections should the Commission wish to review. <br /> <br />
