<br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting – May 3, 2017 <br />7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Chair Paul Zisla, Commissioners Bob Benke, Emily Dunsworth, Rachel <br />Nelson, Kevin Peck, Monica Garcia-Perez (arrived at 7:32 a.m.), Mike Murlowski, and Harry Carter <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Commissioners Graeme Allen <br /> <br />Staff Present: Janice Gundlach- Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning <br />Director; and Craig Schlichting-Director of Community Assets & Development <br />Also Present: <br />Call to Order <br />Chairperson Zisla called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by Commissioner Dunsworth, seconded by Commissioner Carter to approve the agenda as <br />presented. <br /> <br />Approved 7-0 <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Benke, seconded by Commissioner Carter to approve the minutes from the <br />April 5, 2017 meeting. <br /> <br />Approved 7-0 <br /> <br />Report from Council Liaison <br />None <br /> <br />Welcome Commissioner Nelson <br /> <br />Chair Zisla welcomed Commissioner Rachel Nelson to the EDC. <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan Update (HKGi) <br /> <br />Gundlach explained Brad Scheib from HKGi was in attendance to provide the EDC with an update on <br />the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Brad Scheib, HKGi, provided the EDC with a recap on the feedback regarding the Comprehensive Plan <br />staff has received from the recent public engagement events. He understood New Brighton was an <br />aging community and that residents were hoping to age in place. He learned there was a need for a <br />grocery store and destination restaurants in addition to there being a growing need for single-level <br />living. He commented on the life cycle for houses and residents. He described how neighboring <br />communities were projected to grow or decline in population over the coming years. <br /> <br />Mr. Scheib discussed potential areas in the City proposed for land use changes. He explained how <br />manufacturing was beginning to innovate along with business and medical uses. He described how
