Mr. McQuillan stated he was most interested in Public Safety or Parks and Recreation. He explained he was a <br />• high school football official for 15 years and was interested in athletics. He commented he was also interested <br />in public safety and reported he had a cop living on his street for years and years. He reported he took walks in <br />the evening and he wanted to see the streets in his neighborhood become better lit. <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br />appointments. She asked if Mr. McQuillan would be interested in Planning or Economic Development. <br />Mr. McQuillan stated he would be interested but noted Public Safety was a big issue for him. He indicated he <br />would be willing to serve wherever if the Council saw him being a benefit. He explained he loved the <br />community, understood this was a great school district and noted he would remain in the community until he <br />couldn't cut the grass anymore. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Mr. McQuillan for his interest in serving and asked if he had any questions. <br />Mr. McQuillan asked if the commissioner that was let go was newer to the City. <br />Mayor Johnson stated he was a newer commission member. She discussed the process that was followed by <br />the Council to remove this individual after he wrote an editorial that spoke against the City Council. She <br />commented on the process that would be followed by the Council in order to make Commission member <br />appointments and thanked Mr. McQuillan for his willingness to serve. <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Todd Biedenfeld. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked Todd to tell the Council a little bit about himself and his experiences in the <br />community. <br />Todd Biedenfeld stated he has been in agriculture for the past 10 years, sales related. He commented two <br />weeks ago he got moved to management where he will oversee sales. He reported he grew up in South Dakota <br />and moved to Minnesota for school. He indicated he moved to New Brighton three years ago and previously <br />lived in St. Anthony. He stated he plans on being around for a long time. <br />Councilmember Allen asked why he had decided to apply to serve on a City Commission. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated he had an interest in politics and City government because it touches his life every day. <br />He explained he reached out to Terri to see how he could become more involved in the community and was <br />encouraged to serve as an election judge. He then applied to serve on a commission in 2017 and was trying <br />again in 2018. <br />Mayor Johnson asked why he would be a good person to represent the community and advise the City Council. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated he was eager to learn more about the processes within the City and believed he could be <br />a reasonable voice for the people. He indicated he was a good communicator. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked what the three most important responsibilities a commission member had to <br />the community. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated the golden rule applied, along with honesty and integrity. He explained he wanted to be <br />a voice for the community and a willing participant to have conversations with members of the community. <br />
