He indicated he was eager to learn and looked forward to embracing a new position. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked how he would respond if a member of the community were to contact him <br />expressing opposition to an item being addressed by your commission. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated this was to be expected and if it did he would be a good listener and willing to converse <br />about the topic. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated he wouldn't treat his wife or stranger on the street any different. <br />Councilmember Allen reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council. <br />He asked how Mr. Biedenfeld would respond if he disagreed with a policy or Ordinance already in place. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated open dialogue would be key to addressing a concern or policy. He explained he would <br />need to stay within the rules and would go about things in the correct manner. <br />Mayor Johnson asked what the City's biggest challenges were. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated water was a big issue. He indicated there was a lot of division in the country, politically <br />related, and overcoming this at a local level would be key. He commented he did not see any other <br />overshadowing issues in the community. <br />Mayor Johnson asked what the City's opportunities were. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated business growth was an opportunity given the location of the City and its great access to <br />the freeway system. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked if he was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility; <br />economic programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of <br />public safety. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated there was not any one that was of more interest. He indicated he was interested in <br />serving the community and commented perhaps the Planning Commission would be of the most interest. <br />Mayor Johnson asked if he was available in the evening hours for meetings or on the first Wednesday of the <br />month from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated it would be difficult for him to meet on Wednesday mornings but noted he would be able <br />to serve in the evening hours. <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br />appointments. She asked if Mr. Biedenfeld had any questions for the Council. <br />Mr. Biedenfeld stated he understood the timeline from last year. He questioned what the ideal skill sets were <br />the Council was looking for in Commission members. <br />
