<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission <br />August 1, 2018 City Hall <br />Council Chambers 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Vice Chair Axberg. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call: <br />Members Present: Commissioners Pam Axberg, Jack Brunell, Abe McEathron, Julia O’Rourke, <br />Nick Quade and Mike Santi. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Chair Kevin Fields, Commissioners Matt Johnson and Zachary Johnson. <br /> <br />Also Present: Director Jennifer Fink; Assistant Director Jason Hicks; and Council Member Paul <br />Jacobsen. <br /> <br />III. Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by McEathron, seconded by O’Rourke to approve the agenda as presented. Motion <br />carried 6-0. <br /> <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by O’Rourke, seconded by Santi to approve the June 6, 2018 minutes as presented. <br />Motion carried 6-0. <br /> <br />V. Business Items <br /> <br />A. Review of the 2017 Minnesota Outdoor Activities Survey (Twin Cities Metro Area results) <br />– Jennifer Fink, Director of Parks and Recreation <br /> <br />Director Fink provided the Commission with a recap on the 2017 Minnesota Outdoor <br />Activities Survey. She explained this survey was conducted by the DNR. She reported the <br />survey provided information to help better understand trends in adul t recreation and the <br />factors that motivate and create barriers to recreation, while also addressing trends to <br />assist in shaping programming and to determine progress towards attracting more diverse <br />participants. She reported this survey was completed statewide and provided further <br />comment on the respondents and their demographics. The percentage of people <br />participating in outdoor recreational activities was discussed along with the most important <br />reasons for participating in these activities. The top year-round outdoor activities were <br />walking or hiking, relaxing outdoors, observing nature/ photography and biking. The
