Barriers to participation were issues such as weather, <br />mosquitos, the expense, lack of time and busy schedules. The best manner in which to <br />reach people was discussed. She reviewed the take-aways from the survey and commented <br />on how the City needed to reach out to new audiences or participants that are not typical <br />users. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> It was noted the amount of respondents was quite small for the survey and it was <br />believed the demographics were not a fair representation of the overall population. <br /> The need for better education from the Parks and Recreation Department was <br />discussed. <br /> The importance of sidewalks and trail connections was commented on. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen recommended the City consider pursuing a partnership <br />with Ramsey County for additional programming at Long Lake Regional Park. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Paul Jacobsen <br /> <br />Council Member Jacobsen reviewed the new City logo with the Commission. He noted the <br />new logo would begin to appear in and around the City and explained it would be used on <br />the 35W sound walls. He reported the City’s new tagline was: Building Tomorrow Today. He <br />congratulated the City for receiving an award for Excellence in Partnership for the work <br />completed on Lions Park. He noted the City Council recently received an update from the <br />DX response team and the Finance Department. He invited all residents to come out to <br />Stockyard Days Sunday, August 5th through Monday, August 13th. He commented on the <br />events that were being planned for this community celebration. He noted National Night <br />Out would be held on Tuesday, August 7th. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Kevin Fields <br /> <br />Vice Chair Axberg encouraged the public to review the Friday, July 27th issue of the Sun <br />Focus. She noted the City reached Step Three of the GreenStep Cities program. She <br />reported the Annual Junior Golf Tournament would be held on Monday, August 6th. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink discussed the new landscaping that was completed at City Hall. She was <br />pleased to report the Parks Department was now able to take “no frills” birthday party <br />reservations online. She explained the Community Center was on pace to have its highest <br />attendance numbers ever and has had two months where attendance doubled over the <br />previous year. She commented RISE would be moving into the Community Center space <br />and was extremely excited to be a new tenant in this space. She discussed the recent Cops <br />and Bobbers event held on Long Lake. She commented on a free Farmer’s Market that was <br />put on by the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf. She noted the new Lions Park softball field would be <br />opened during Stockyard Days and the first event played on this field would be the Denny
