<br /> <br /> Youth Baseball <br /> Youth Softball <br /> Adult Softball <br /> <br />Director Fink commented with the opening of Lions Park, and the purchase of the New Brighton <br />School property, staff has been able to take advantage of additional turf to rest fields that have <br />been in need of rest and repair. She reviewed all of the field types and locations throughout the <br />City. She discussed the current field conditions and potential field sites. <br /> <br />Superintendent Wolla provided the Commission with additional information on the health and <br />use of the City’s fields, along with an update on how staff plans to move forward with resting <br />fields in the future. He noted Driftwood and Innsbruck parks were resting at this time. <br /> <br />Director Fink stated going forward staff would be working to delay spring starts in order to better <br />protect the turf. In addition, she reported staff was creating a long-term strategic plan and would <br />be resting one field per year. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> Staff discussed how fields were leveled and conditioned in order to create level <br />playing surfaces. Staff reported they would be completing a field condition analysis. <br /> The impact of resting fields was reviewed, along with the long-term health of the <br />City’s fields. <br /> Staff commented on how the old New Brighton Elementary School was being utilized <br />this fall. It was noted staff has been told to not plan on having this space long-term. <br /> The future use of Hansen Park was discussed. <br /> A commissioner suggested a community garden be considered in the City, along with <br />a dog park. <br /> The Commission supported staff completing a strategic plan and field condition <br />analysis. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Paul Jacobsen <br /> <br />Council Member Jacobsen reported the Council was reviewing the 2019 budget and <br />approved the preliminary tax levy in September. He explained the levy was slightly higher <br />for 2019 as the City was working to achieve debt free streets. He stated the Council has been <br />discussing a change to the tobacco ordinance and was considering the purchase of two new <br />fire trucks. Further discussion ensued regarding Hansen Park and the drainage <br />improvements. Councilmember Jacobsen encouraged the Commission members to walk <br />through Hansen Park. <br /> <br />B.
