REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT HEARING FOR PROJECT 18-1, 2018 <br />STREET REHABILITATION. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets and <br />Development <br />CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______ <br />Recommendation: <br />1)To hold a Public Improvement Hearing on proposed Project 18-1, 2018 Street Rehabilitation. <br />2)To adopt the Resolution ordering Project 18-1, 2017 Street Rehabilitation as proposed in the <br />Feasibility Study, authorize staff to proceed with the preparation of the plans and specifications <br />and designate the Director of Community Assets and Development as the engineer for this <br />improvement. <br />Legislative History: The City Council adopted a Comprehensive Street Plan in 1982 creating a means <br />by which to improve and maintain high quality streets and alleys within the City. The streets considered <br />for rehabilitation in 2018 were identified by City staff as needing replacement in 2018 based on their age <br />and pavement condition. <br />On December 12, 2017, Council approved the following: <br />Adopted a resolution ordering staff to prepare a Feasibility Study for City Project 18-1, 2018 <br />Street Rehabilitation. <br />Authorized the Director of Community Assets and Development to enter into professional <br />services agreement with American Engineering Testing, Inc. (AET) for Geotechnical Services <br />and Soil Borings. <br />Authorized the Director of Community Assets and Development to enter into professional <br />services agreement with WSB and Associates, Inc. (WSB) for Freedom Park Phase II Flood <br />Improvements. <br />On January 18, 2018, an informational meeting was held with residents/businesses to be affected by this <br />proposed project. Information about this meeting is included in the Feasibility Study. <br />On February 7, 2018, staff met with the Parks, Recreation, and Environmental Committee. No changes <br />were suggested for the project corridor. <br />At the February 13, 2018, council meeting the City Council accepted the Feasibility Study for Project 18- <br />1 and set the Public Improvement Hearing for March 13, 2018. <br />AGENDA SECTION: Public Hearing <br />REPORT DATE: March 6, 2018 <br />MEETING DATE: March 13, 2018
