REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR CITY
PROJECT 17-15, LIFT STATION 7 REPLACEMENT
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets and
Development
CITY MANAGER APPROVAL:

No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______

Recommendation:
1. Approve the plans and specifications for City Project 17-15, Lift Station 7 Replacement.
2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids for City Project 17-15, Lift Station 7 Replacement.
Includes manholes and piping
3. Authorize staff to solicit quotes for New Lift Station Equipment and Pumps.

Legislative History: The City hired Foth Infrastructure & Environment, LLC to analyze Lift Stations #2
and #7, and this report was finalized in January of 2014.

June 10, 2014: The City Council authorized the purchase a Permanent Standby Power Generator for Lift
Station 7, and worked with a Professional Land Surveyor and the City Attorney to negotiate a 20-foot x
40-foot sewer easement for placement of the generator, SCADA equipment, and future anticipated Lift
Station 7 improvements.

Explanation:
Pumps-
The purpose of this item is to obtain Council authorization to solicit quotes for Vortex Pumps and
Accessories for a new Cleveland Avenue Lift Station 7. The lead time to acquire these pumps is 6-8
weeks upon approval. To prevent delays, the City would like to purchase this equipment directly from
the supplier and store it until a contractor is awarded the project. The City has other Hydromatic pumps
and this quote will allow the City to be consistent with the type of pump we install to minimize
maintenance issues, spare parts required, etc. Sticking with one type of pump makes our system more
uniform and easier to operate and maintain.

Wet Well-
The purpose of this item is to advance the project to the next step which is to publicly advertise for bids.
Bids are tentatively scheduled to be opened in late June, 2018, with construction to begin in mid-August.
The project consists of the removal and replacement of the existing wet well, and the reroute of existing
sanitary sewer gravity and force mains.
AGENDA SECTION: Consent
REPORT DATE: May 15, 2018
MEETING DATE: May 22, 2018
