Lift Station 7 provides service to a significant area of the City. It has a small wet well and very limited
storage capacity so it cannot be out of service for extended periods of time without risk of backing up
wastewater into nearby basements. In consideration of the relatively difficult access and the limited
emergency storage, a permanent standby generator with an automatic transfer switch was installed at this
site to automatically provide power during outages.

Staff included the following as part of a permanent generator system:
A new transfer switch.
A new 40KW, 240V single phase diesel generator.
Wire and conduit from the existing disconnect to the new transfer switch.
Wire and conduit from the generator to the transfer switch.
Wire and conduit from the transfer switch to the existing control panel.
Concrete pad to set the generator on.
Tree removal and grading to set the generator southwest of the lift station.

The existing easement area for Lift Station #7 manholes and controls was not large enough to
accommodate the stand-by generator and future planned lift station improvements. Kemper and Associates
completed a boundary survey and created the required easement documents to allow the City to negotiate
an agreement for the adjusted easement corridor. One of the easements became part of a probate process
and is now being finalized. As part of the process the City will take a soil boring looking at the stability
of the existing soils and height of the water table.

Costs and Funding: This project, if approved, would be funded from Sewer Improvement Fund 702.

The total cost of this project is estimated as follows:

Wet Well and Utility Work $112,000
Electrical/Control Work $10,000 (InControl, Inc.)
Easements/Survey $3,500
Soil Boring $3,500
Pumps and Equipment $30,000
$159,000

____________________________________
Craig Schlichting, P.E.
Director of Community Assets and Development
Attachments:
Plan Sheet
