Fynewever requested all members provide her or staff with their sector reporting notes by
Friday, October 19th.

McQuillan explained he had no additional sector reporting and reported he would submit his
notes to staff.

Luong indicated she would be meeting with several local business owners and would report
back to the group in November.

Allen asked if contact still had to be made with seniors in the community. Fynewever stated
this would be welcomed.

B. Inclusivity in Public Spaces

Fynewever reported staff had a presentation on Inclusivity in Public Space.

Massopust reviewed photographs of all of the public spaces in New Brighton with the Task
Force and commented on ideas of how to make these spaces more inclusive.

Allen stated City Hall did not have a very welcoming atmosphere. He indicated he was also
frustrated with the fact that every time he called City Hall he got an answering machine.

McQuillan agreed City Hall did not have a personal touch anymore. Massopust reported the
City had budgeted for an additional staff person in 2019 to sit at the main entrance to take
calls and greet the public.

Allen questioned if signs could be posted in other languages.

McQuillan agreed this would benefit the community and proposed all signage be posted in
English and Spanish.

Schlangen suggested pictures be posted within City Hall that were of people in the
community. She believed this would make the space feel more people-centered.

Fynewever recommended each City building have a sign posted that states “All are Welcome
Here”.

Allen suggested artwork be contributed by local children.

Schlangen reported the Mounds View School District had a great art program that would be
able to assist the City.

Luong explained the Public Safety Department space was quite stark and stated the waiting
area could be made more inviting.

McQuillan proposed the gateway signs be updated.

Fynewever stated she was excited to see Inclusivity in Public Spaces being addressed by the
City sooner rather than later. She supported the School District being contacted to assist the
City with art at City Hall.
