Parks & Recreation Updates will be emailed around the 10th of each month. <br /> The typical park and recreation agency generates $19.04 in revenue annually for each resident. <br />Did you know in 2017 the New Brighton Parks and Recreation Department had revenues that <br />equated to $78.86 per resident? This is a 47.2% recovery of operating expenditures in New <br />Brighton compared to a national average of 29.1%. <br /> NBCC had a busy month with rentals resulting in revenue of $16,497. Contributing to this <br />amount was a three-day American Contract Bridge League tournament in the Community Room <br />as well as a steady gymnasium rental from Northern Impact Volleyball Club. <br /> The Eagles Nest hosted a January record 157 parties. <br /> SUPPORTING COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT <br /> Parks and Recreation was honored with three Sun Focus Readers’ Choice Awards in the January <br />26 edition. The Eagles Nest Indoor Playground continued its run as the Best Place for Children’s <br />Parties. Brightwood Hills Golf Course was selected as the Best Golf Course in both the Mounds <br />View/New Brighton as well as the Columbia Heights/Fridley editions. New Parks and Recreation <br />winner this year was the Ed-Ventures Day Care Program, which was selected as the Best <br />Children’s Summer Program. <br /> On Saturday, January 27 an estimated 250 people visited the Community Bonfire at Freedom <br />Park. Activities included ice skating, hockey, sledding and roasting S’mores over a roaring fire. <br />Parks and Recreation worked in collaboration with New Brighton Girl and Boy Scout troops and <br />Public Safety to host this community event. The Girl Scouts worked towards their Bronze Award <br />by organizing a food drive to benefit the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf along with preparing and <br />serving S’mores and hot cocoa to participants attending the event. <br /> January has always been outdoor skating time in Minnesota. Through the month, Freedom Park <br />has seen 1930 visitors, Hansen Park 973 and Sunny Square an additional 483 totaling 3386 <br />visitors. Of that total 459 have been free skating, 1130 on the hockey rinks and another 1797 <br />utilizing the parks with activities such as sledding.
