Parks and RecreationDRAFT 5-75 <br />path FOrWarD <br />The first priority implementation initiative regarding parks, recreation, and open space <br />systems if for the city of New Brighton to complete a system plan update. The park <br />system plan update will: <br /> »Gain input on the needs and desires for physical park facilities and recreation <br />services; <br /> »Gain input on the current desires for public recreation facilities and how well <br />existing facilities such as the New Brighton Community Center fulfils those desires, <br />and determine what level of interest exists in the community for remodelling or <br />expanding the Community Center; <br /> »Use a combination of community workshops, PREC work sessions, focus groups <br />and individual stakeholder interviews to gain input from the community members, <br />key leaders, and stakeholder groups in the city; <br /> »Target specific user groups such as youth sports associations, seniors, teens, <br />active adults, families, and other specific groups for input that may not be readily <br />accessed through traditional input methodologies; <br /> »Establish master plans for key parks in greatest need for updates, renovation, and <br />improvements; <br /> »Identify key trail/connection gaps and a project list to close the gaps; <br /> »Identify capital improvement costs and ongoing funding needs for proposed park <br />improvements; <br /> »Identify and align funding sources; and, <br /> »Establish priorities and phasing for key improvement projects.
