It was noted the less than lethal <br />rounds can be fired by single or double barrel launcher. <br /> The number of use of force incidents in the City were discussed in comparison to <br />national averages. <br /> The members requested staff bring a round or pictures to the next Commission <br />meeting. <br /> The Commission believed the less than lethal rounds would be a great tool for the <br />City’s officers to have. <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />B. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> <br />Chair Allen stated the January VIPS meeting had 16 people in attendance. He noted Santa <br />Cop was able to serve 9 children and 27 families in New Brighton. He reported a blood drive <br />was held by VIPS in January where 15 pints of blood was received. He commented the next <br />blood drive would be Wednesday, March 28th. The number of volunteer hours provided by <br />VIPS in the past year was discussed. <br /> <br />C. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick commented on the Public Safety activity that occurred in January and the <br />first part of February, which included assisting with Super Bowl coverage. He reported the <br />department was in the hiring process at this time and first round interviews would be held on <br />Friday, February 16th. Crime statistic numbers for 2017 were reviewed in detail with the <br />Commission. Further discussion ensued regarding stolen vehicles statistics in the City. <br /> <br />D. Human Rights – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />E. City Council Update – Paul Jacobsen, Councilmember <br /> <br />Director Paetznick reported the City Council would be holding two neighborhood meetings <br />in the coming weeks. The dates for these meetings were Thursday, February 22nd and <br />Thursday, March 22nd. <br /> <br />VII. Business Items <br /> <br />A. Traffic Stop Data Collection – Tony Paetznick, Public Safety Director <br /> <br />Director Paetznick reviewed newly collected the traffic stop data with the Commission.
