<br /> <br />installation of the mitigation, and if supported, the year we would prefer the mitigation to be <br />implemented (2018 or 2019). MnDOT’s proposed mitigation installation timing is based on the <br />type of mitigation. These mitigations are temporary and will be removed at the completion of the <br />construction project. It was noted MnDOT will pay for the mitigations and there will be no cost <br />to the City of New Brighton for any of the improvements. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> The Commission was pleased the improvements were being made on 35W. Staff <br />described the location of the proposed sound walls. <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />There was no update. <br /> <br />B. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> <br />Chair Allen stated VIPS would be holding a blood drive on Wednesday, March 28th. He <br />noted there would be a volunteer appreciation dinner on Sunday, April 22nd at 5:00 p.m. He <br />commented there would be community emergency response training on Sunday, April 8th. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hollimon requested staff provide the Commission with a calendar of events <br />for Public Safety events. <br /> <br />C. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick stated staff was in the final phase of the hiring process and would be <br />hiring one additional officer. He noted seven new firefighters were completing their medical <br />emergency response training. He reported the Public Safety Department’s DWI officer had <br />changed to Don Kostohryz He indicated this grant position would run through October of <br />2018. He stated the Faith Community Partnership met recently and had a speaker from the <br />Islamic Resource Group of Minnesota speak about Muslim culture. He explained a school <br />safety meeting was held with Mounds View Schools. He commented the Public Safety <br />Department would be conducting several different training scenarios at the Korean Church <br />property. He stated staff and the City Council were seeking student candidates to serve on <br />each of its Commissions. <br /> <br />Director Paetznick noted this was Chair Allen’s last meeting and thanked him for his years of <br />dedicated service to the Public Safety Commission. <br /> <br />D. Human Rights – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />There was no update. <br /> <br />E. City Council Update – Mary Burg, Councilmember <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg explained the City Council held interviews for open commission seats <br />and for the Inclusivity Task Force. She stated these positions would be appointed by the <br />Council by April 1st. She reported the Council would be holding a Neighborhood Meeting on
