12
Compliance, Move Over Law and Pedestrian Crosswalk enforcement. Participating
agencies include Maplewood Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Mounds View Police, New
Brighton Police, North St. Paul Police, Ramsey County Sheriff, Roseville Police, Saint
Anthony Police, Saint Paul Police and White Bear Lake Police.

With the end of the federal fiscal year on September 30, our agency’s association with the
DWI officer grant will conclude. Thanks to our trio of DWI Officers who served in this
capacity (Officer B. DeBoer, Officer Farmer and Officer Kostohryz) and a special
behind-the-scenes appreciation to Sgt. Nelson, Deputy Director Hamdorf, and especially
Office Supervisor Forbord for their administrative duties of grant reporting and managing
the ongoing complexities of payroll with this assignment. During the grant period, New
Brighton DWI Officers conducted the following: 3,895 traffic stops, 667 people taken
into custody, 401 vehicles towed, 308 DWI arrests, and 374 arrests for driving after
revocation/suspension/cancellation.

Thanks to a financial partnership with the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association
(MCPA) and Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM), our
training room upstairs will undergo a significant technology upgrade next week as over
$77,000 worth of new projectors, screens, microphones, and cameras will be installed as
the space becomes a “smart classroom” capable of delivering interactive, online training.
Already, the divider wall has come down and the walls are being painted. The room
orientation will be flipped during the process so stay tuned for the finished product!

On September 27, Fire Marshal Kip LaMotte hosted the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) and Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division at a Safety Summit. The
agenda included the following: Minnesota Fire Data and the National Fire Problem,
Recruitment and Retention, Public Education Resources, Fire Prevention – A City
Perspective, Older Adult Fire and Fall Prevention, Wildland Fire Safety, Lessons From
Fire Investigation, Youth Firesetting and Prevention Updates, Smoke Alarm Installation
and Canvassing, and the Minnesota Firefighter Initiative.

Leadership from the Roseville Fire Department visited Public Safety administration on
September 26 to discuss inclusion of New Brighton Fire units in the City of Roseville’s
response plans and reciprocating by adding Roseville Fire resources to our automatic-aid
dispatches in New Brighton. Public Safety Leadership will consider their request and
offer after reviewing geographic and high-hazard response needs in our community.

XI. RECOGNITION, NEWS AND INFORMATION

This section will include “good news” information about our public safety personnel.
This will include formal and informal recognition of the department and/or its personnel
on or off duty.

Fire Division Command Staff members celebrated with Firefighter Britta Nundahl in
recognition of her deployment later this month as a member of the Minnesota National
Guard to serve a tour of duty in Kuwait. They joined members of Britta’s family in the
surprise event, including her father Fire Captain Mike Nundahl and brother Firefighter
Max Nundahl who are also members of New Brighton Public Safety.
