OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE

This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the
month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues.
It also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on public
safety related issues.

On Monday, September 10, Deputy Director Hamdorf attended a meeting of Ramsey
County Fire Chiefs to review responses using the agreed-upon closest unit dispatching
protocols that sends the nearest fire apparatus to a confirmed structure fire regardless of
jurisdiction. Based on data provided from the Emergency Communications Center, the
effort is working as designed, with neighboring agencies arriving first or simultaneously
with the home city department to these emergencies.

On September 13, the Ramsey County Police Chiefs convened with a presentation from
City of Maplewood Communications Manager Joe Sheerhan who spoke about a
municipal job fair opportunity for recruitment of police officers and other local
government employees. Director Paetznick attended.

Director Paetznick met with our new IT staff Nick and Veronica to discuss the
department’s progress thus far on the possible implementation of a BWC program for the
agency. The topic will be discussed with Council at a work session next month.

Fridley Fire Department leadership came to New Brighton last week with a request to add
New Brighton Public Safety to their automatic-aid for confirmed structure fires in their
community during the weekday, daytime hours. New Brighton is also meeting with the
Roseville Fire Department later this month at their request to discuss adding us to their
response plans as well. Public Safety leadership will evaluate both of these requests and
report back on them.

On September 10, Deputy Director Hamdorf attended a meeting of Ramsey County Fire
Chiefs to review responses using the agreed-upon closest unit dispatching protocols that
sends the nearest fire apparatus to a confirmed structure fire regardless of jurisdiction.
Based on data provided from the Emergency Communications Center, the effort is
working as designed, with neighboring agencies arriving first or simultaneously with the
home city department to these emergencies.

The Ramsey County Traffic Safety Initiative was awarded $619,830.00 for the 2019
Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) Enforcement Grant from the Office of Traffic Safety for the
Federal Fiscal Year 2019 to create safer roadways throughout Ramsey County
collaboratively by raising public awareness and enforcing all traffic regulations.
