PLANNING REPORT <br /> <br />DATE: July 17, 2018 <br />CASE: PSR18-0001 <br />SUBJECT: Special Use Permit to Allow Addition at Pike Lake Education Center, <br />2101 14th ST NW <br />APPLICANT: Mounds View Public Schools <br /> <br />REQUEST & BACKGROUND <br />The applicant is requesting a Special Use Permit to facilitate construction of an addition to the <br />Pike Lake Education Center. The proposed addition is 3,022 SF, consisting of two classrooms, <br />and will be located at the rear (south) side of the existing school. Other than minor revisions to <br />the sidewalk/trails immediately adjacent to the proposed addition, no other exterior <br />improvements are proposed at the property. Zoning Code Section 4-030 (1) list schools as a <br />specially permitted use, whereby all structures shall not be nearer than 30’ to any R-1 or R-2 lot <br />line. <br /> <br />Mounds View School District passed a referendum during the 2017 election, whereby numerous <br />improvements are planned at district properties. The referendum was aimed at improving <br />facilities and addressing increasing enrollment. In addition to the addition of two classrooms, <br />other interior improvements at Pike Lake Education Center are underway.
