August 28, 2018 Page 4 of 5 <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reyorts, Announccments and Updates Commission Unisa <br />2,eyorts. <br />Dean Lotter <br />Announcements and <br />Undateti <br />City Manager Lotter thanked the Council for the great discussion held at the worksession <br />meeting regarding the 2019 budget and CIP. He provided the Council with an update on the <br />water treatment plant and noted the plant would be operational this fall with the landscaping <br />being completed for next spring. <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported the EDC would be meeting on Wednesday, September 5th. He <br />thanked staff for all of their work on the 2019 budget. <br />Mary Sure <br />Councilmember Burg provided the Council with an update from the Planning Commission. <br />She noted new water meters were being installed throughout the City. She explained she <br />served on the NYFS board and noted this group would be meeting again on Friday, August <br />31st. She encouraged the public to consider attending the Taste of Northeast Fundraiser on <br />Saturday, October 27t". She stated she attended the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf ribbon cutting <br />ceremony last Tuesday. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked staff for all of their work on the 2019 budget and the <br />Council for the good discussion that was held at the worksession meeting. He reported PREC <br />would meet next on Wednesday, September 5th at 6:30 p.m. He stated the New Brighton <br />Community Center would be closed the week of Labor Day for annual maintenance. He <br />commented on the pop-up fitness events would be held at Hanson Park. He welcomed RISE to <br />the New Brighton Community Center and stated he believed this would be a great partnership. <br />He commented on the success of the playground programs being sponsored by Parks and Rec. <br />He thanked Dana Healy for introducing herself to the City Council. He wished everyone a <br />happy and safe Labor Day. <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth encouraged the public to drive safely next week as students would <br />be heading back to school on Tuesday, September 4t". She thanked the public for responding <br />so positively to the water meter replacements. She noted the Public Safety Committee would <br />be meeting next on Monday, September l Otn <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson requested the public driveway safety on Tuesday, September 4th and <br />encouraged residents to drive safely. She commented on the yellow flags flying throughout the <br />community noting these were to inform the public of the air quality. She thanked the Council <br />for discussing the 2019 budget and thanked staff for their organized presentation. She <br />addressed the concerns raised regarding Hanson Park. She stated it was not easy being the <br />Mayor or an elected official. She stated she worked diligently on behalf of the community and <br />its residents. She explained Hanson Park has been a difficult project for a number of reasons, <br />but it was her hope the public would understand the Council was always available to take <br />comments and concerns. She addressed the problems with this project and noted staff has been <br />working diligently with Rice Creek Watershed to reach a compromise. She stated, <br />unfortunately, a compromise could not be reached and the project proceeded. She commented <br />
