<br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> Operating expenditures and the City’s recovery rate was discussed with the Parks <br />and Recreation Department’s budget. <br /> The programs being offered by other municipalities was reviewed with the <br />Commission. <br /> The changes in the budget for the past few years was discussed. <br /> The Commission thanked staff for the thorough report on the Parks Agency <br />Performance Metrics. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Mary Burg <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg encouraged all to attend the New Brighton Community Open House <br />which would be held on Saturday, May 4th at the Community Center from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 <br />p.m. She noted the Parks Strategic Plan would be reviewed, along with the MnPASS project <br />and New Brighton Elementary School redevelopment project. She noted the Community <br />Cleanup Day would be held on Saturday, May 18th from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Public <br />Works building. She commented the Farmer’s Market would be held at the Community <br />Center this year and would begin on Sunday, June 16 th. She reported the City’s Public <br />Works Superintendent recently retired on April 30th. She wished Scott Boller well in his <br />retirement. She explained she attended the NYFS Leadership Luncheon earlier this <br />afternoon and discussed the great work NYFS was conducting in the community. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg stated she had the opportunity to participate on the Steering Committee for <br />the Parks Strategic Plan. She discussed the individuals serving on this committee noting it <br />was a diverse and knowledgeable group. She commented further on the discussion that <br />was held at the first Steering Committee meeting. She stated she was excited to see the <br />City going through this process. She updated the Commission on the upcoming census <br />events that would be held in the community. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink commented on an upcoming inclusivity event that would be held at the Eagle’s <br />Nest for autistic and special needs children. She reported staff had recently been retrained <br />and recertified in CPR. She discussed a recent life-saving event that occurred at the <br />Community Center which required the use of an AED. She commented on the restroom at <br />Lion’s Park and explained the City should be receiving a grant from the County which would <br />allow the City to break ground on this restroom next spring. She congratulated RISE for <br />receiving an award for their adult daycare program. She stated she was working with the <br />local high schools to inform them about seasonal Parks and Recreation job opportunities. <br />She noted she was still taking applications for several seasonal employees. She reported <br />the Community Center was getting a new vending machine that would allow for the sale of <br />soft-serve frozen yogurt. <br />
