<br /> <br />Candace Amberg, Senior Associate with WSB, explained the New Brighton Park Master Plan <br />was a strategic and comprehensive master plan providing an overall community vision for <br />the parks, trails and recreation for the City for the next 20 years. This document was meant <br />to guide future improvements for developments and improvements by establishing goals, <br />policies, objectives and overall priorities in line with the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. She <br />stated for the past nine months WSB has been gathering data, completing evaluations, and <br />engaging with the public. She reported over the next two months recommendations and <br />priorities would be set in the hopes of having a draft plan for the Commission to review in <br />November. The goal would be for the Commission and Council to review and approve the <br />final plan in December or January. The park and service area gaps were discussed along <br />with how each park and park building was evaluated. It was noted a city-wide evaluation of <br />local athletics was also considered. She provided further comment on the information that <br />was gathered through Social Pinpoint. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> Staff described how each park was evaluated and where the trail gaps were in the <br />community. <br /> The importance of trails in the community and pedestrian safety was stressed. <br /> The common themes gained from public feedback was reviewed with the <br />Commission. <br /> The great work that was conducted by the steering committee was discussed. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Mary Burg <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg encouraged residents to visit the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday <br />from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. through October 4th. She stated on Sunday, September 8th <br />Women’s Suffrage would be celebrated at the State Capitol as it was the 100 th Anniversary <br />of the 19th Amendment. She commented further on the importance of residents exercising <br />their right to vote. She explained a blood drive would be held on Wednesday, September <br />11th at the Community Center from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. She reported the New Brighton <br />Clean Up Day would be held on Saturday, September 21st from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the <br />Public Works Maintenance Garage. She indicated Hanson Park would be rededicated on <br />Tuesday, September 24th at 5:00 p.m. She stated on Tuesday, October 1st a ribbon cutting <br />ceremony would be held at the City’s new water treatment plant. She invited the public to <br />consider attending the Taste of Northeast which was sponsored by NYFS. She explained this <br />event would be held on Thursday, October 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vadnais <br />Heights Commons and the cost was $30 per person. She reported the City would be <br />receiving an award from RISE for being one of their Partners of the Year. <br /> <br />B.
