She commented on the accreditation <br />Rise has achieved to serve those with disabilities in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. She <br />noted Rise currently has 38 adults in its New Brighton program. She explained Rise was <br />seeing tremendous success of its day program at the Community Center and needed to <br />expand into a fourth room in order to accommodate 52 adults. She thanked the City for <br />their great partnership. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> It was noted the Rise participants come from Anoka, Hennepin and Ramsey County <br />to participate in the day program at the Community Center. <br /> Staff commented on how the participants in the Rise day program have enriched the <br />life of the Community Center. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Mary Burg <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg commented on the recent edition of the City newsletter. She <br />reported the New Brighton Bulletin closed and noted the City would be looking for another <br />newspaper to print legal notices in. She explained newly hired Police Officer Thomas was <br />sworn in at the Council’s last meeting. She stated she attended the grand opening of the <br />City’s Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, October 1st. She indicated the New Brighton <br />Historical Society would be holding an Annual Harvest Dinner to celebrate residents over <br />the age of 80 on Sunday, October 13th at the Eagles. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg had nothing to report at this time. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink stated she had recently returned from a conference in Baltimore. She thanked <br />the City for allowing her to attend this event. She noted staff was working with Ramsey <br />County to finalize plans for the Lions Park restroom facility. It was her hope th is project <br />would be awarded yet this year with groundbreaking to occur in the spring of 2020. She <br />explained she met with her staff this morning to discuss design ideas from the <br />Comprehensive Plan. She reported Emerald Ash Borer continues to spike in the C ity. She <br />indicated treatments for viable Ash trees would continue in 2020. She noted the City was <br />offering free boulevard trees and encouraged residents to call the City to learn more about <br />this program. <br /> <br />Director Fink stated today was the last day for the New Brighton Farmer’s Market. She <br />explained representatives from the Farmer’s Market will be attending the next PREC <br />meeting. She commented further on several staffing changes that would occur within the <br />Parks and Recreation Department. She reported interviews would be held for the Sports <br />and Aquatics Coordinator and the Meetings and Events Coordinator positions.
