<br />weekly themes that are used for the farmers market. She commented on the Power of <br />Produce (POP) program and how it was being utilized to encourage kids to have healthy <br />eating habits. She stated she was excited to report the farmer’s market would have a winter <br />market this year with 20 vendors. The winter market would be located at the New Brighton <br />Community Center in Rooms A and B on the second Wednesday of every month November <br />through March from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. She encouraged the Commission to attend and <br />consider volunteering at the farmer’s market. <br /> <br />Director Fink stated the farmer’s market has been a great addition to the Community Center. <br />She believed the City benefited greatly from this community event. She thanked Angela and <br />all of the volunteers that make this event possible. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg commented on how valuable the farmer’s market was to provide <br />connections to the community for residents and local business owners. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> It was noted the farmer’s market was working to become a non-profit. <br /> The farmer’s market was seeking additional funding to assist with the POP program. <br /> Parking for the farmer’s market was discussed. <br /> The Commission recommended the farmer’s market be advertised at local businesses, <br />such as CSI. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Mary Burg <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. She <br />explained City Manager Lotter has accepted a position in Eureka, California and he would be <br />leaving the City at the end of November. She reported City Manager Lotter has been with the <br />City for the past 13 years and discussed the wonderful successes he has had in the <br />community. She commented a going away party will be held for City Manager Lotter on <br />Friday, November 22nd. She then discussed the recent school board election and noted this <br />election was paid for by the school district. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Chair Axberg reported preliminary information was being pulled together for the Strategic <br />Long Range Plan. She explained the Council would be reviewing this information on <br />Tuesday, November 26th. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink stated she would be attending the Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association <br />Conference this week. She explained she enjoyed learning from other Park Directors at this <br />event. She reported she had two new staff members that started with the City last week. She <br />commented she had three new volunteer aids working at the Community Center and noted <br />she was seeking aquatic instructor at this time. She indicated the senior hiking club ended <br />for the season. She stated Brightwood Hills Golf Course was still open and noted 12 days <br />were lost due to rain in October. She reported the new irrigation system was installed at the <br />golf course and would be operational for 2020. She reported Ramsey County would be <br />having an ice castle at Long Lake Regional Park this winter. <br />
