<br />• Staff encouraged the Commission to buy new batteries for their smoke detectors on a <br />yearly basis and to replace their carbon monoxide detectors every five years. <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />Dave Mattson provided the Commission with an update on calls for service through <br />September 30th and compared this information to calls for service in 2017. Response times <br />for emergent calls were reviewed and he described how response times were impacted in <br />2018 due to staffing shortages. He explained there was a shortage of paramedics at this time <br />and noted recruiting efforts were increasing. He commented on the recent railroad and active <br />shooter training that occurred in New Brighton and stated both events were very valuable to <br />his staff. <br /> <br />• The Commission encouraged Allina to consider hiring prior military for the open <br />paramedic positions. <br /> <br />B. Public Safety Update – Deputy Director Hamdorf <br /> <br />Deputy Director Hamdorf reported Director Paetznick was attending an IACP Training <br />Conference this week. He noted the Fire Department Open House would be held on <br />Monday, October 29th. <br /> <br />C. City Council Update – Emily Dunsworth, Councilmember <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth stated the Council was working on the 2019 budget along with a <br />plan for the old New Brighton Elementary School. <br /> <br />Chair Hollimon commended the Council and staff on its financial management efforts on <br />behalf of the City. <br /> <br />VII.
