January 8, 2019 Page 6 of 7 <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter thanked the Council for their time at the recent retreat. He explained the <br />City’s next newsletter was heading to the printer and would be sent to residents in the next <br />week or two. He reported closest unit dispatching was the highlight story for the newsletter. <br />He was pleased to report the closest unit dispatching system recently received an Innovation <br />Award. He commented on the special legislation that was requested for NBE and discussed <br />the success of the TIF Districts. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported the EDC met on Wednesday, January 2nd but noted he was <br />unable to attend this meeting. He stated this group discussed Block B within NBE and <br />reviewed results of a hotel study. He noted the old Korean Church site was now being referred <br />to as the Interchange. He wished everyone a Happy New Year. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth reported the Public Safety Department received an award for Local <br />Government Innovation from the Humphrey Public School of Affairs at the University of <br />Minnesota for the department’s closest unit dispatching system. She commended the Public <br />Safety Department for all of their efforts on this initiative. She explained the City would be <br />hosting a Blood Drive at the Community Center on Wednesday, January 16th from 12:30 p.m. <br />to 6:30 p.m. She stated the Public Safety Commission would be meeting next on Monday, <br />January 14th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported PREC did not meet in January. He explained this group <br />would be meeting next on Wednesday, February 6th at 6:30 p.m. He sent his condolences to <br />Jerry Samuelson and family. He thanked staff for hosting a great strategic planning session on <br />Saturday. He thanked Chair Hollimon for his thorough report and thanked all Commission <br />members for their dedicated service to the City. He wished all New Brighton residents a happy <br />2019. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg thanked the Mayor for attending the Planning Commission meeting for <br />her in December. She stated the Planning Commission would meet next on Tuesday, January <br />15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. She explained the City Council was taking <br />applications for open Commission seats at this time. She noted Commission appointments <br />would occur in April. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson discussed a comment that was made on Facebook regarding the Public Safety <br />Departments proactive work to address those not yielding to school busses. She encouraged all <br />New Brighton residents to stop when school busses have their arms out and lights flashing. <br />She encouraged all residents to be vigilant and watch out for their neighbors and to call 911 if <br />something seemed amiss. She thanked staff and the City Council for all of their efforts at the <br />recent strategic planning session. She commented on the important role Commissions played <br />in the community and encouraged those interested to apply for an open seat. She thanked the <br />Bartz brothers for their incredible snow sculpture.
