Paetznick, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br /> <br />Recommendation: Accept the Local Government Innovation Award issued to the New Brighton <br />Department of Public Safety as members of the Ramsey County Fire Chiefs <br />Association. <br /> <br />Legislative History: The City Council approved Public Safety’s participation in the Closest Unit <br />Dispatching program at its meeting on March 22, 2016. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: n/a <br /> <br />Explanation: The Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota named <br />the Ramsey County Fire Chiefs Association (RCFCA) as the recipients of its 2018 <br />Leading Innovator in the City Category of the 12th annual Local Government <br />Innovation Awards (LGIA) for its Closest-Unit Dispatching program. The RCFCA <br />program brings 10 fire departments within a 170-square-mile area together to <br />dispatch the closest agency for response within the county’s different <br />combinations of highly trained full-time, part-time, volunteer and/or paid on- <br />call firefighters. Ramsey County’s 12 cities entered into this joint powers <br />agreement in 2016 and have improved response times for critical calls, resulting <br />in a higher survivability rate and less property loss. <br /> <br /> ________________________ <br />Anthony S.
