<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />February 26, 2019 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br /> Councilmember Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Absent: Councilmember Mary Burg <br /> Councilmember Emily Dunsworth <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Terri Spangrud <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: Max Nundahl, Amelia Kuiper, Stephanie Kitzhaber, Bret Fynewever <br /> <br />Commission Applicant Interviews <br /> <br />Spangrud reported the Council would be interviewing four candidates for Commission positions this evening. <br />She reviewed the information provided by the applicants. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Max Nundahl. She asked Max to tell the Council a little bit about himself and his <br />experiences in the community. <br /> <br />Max Nundahl stated he has been a New Brighton resident his whole life. He spent summers during college <br />working for the Public Works Department. He noted he joined the fire department two years ago and recently <br />became a homeowner in New Brighton. He indicated he works for one of API’s companies, JAMAR. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked why he had decided to apply to serve on a City Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl explained he was looking to get more involved. He stated the industry in which he serves for his <br />career leads him to pursue economic development. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked why he would be a good person to represent the community and advise the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl reported from a generation standpoint, he could provide a new or different perspective. He <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked what the most important responsibilities a commission member had to the community. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl stated this would be a direct involvement in the community while acting as a liaison. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked how he would respond if a member of the community were to contact him <br />expressing opposition to an item being addressed by your commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl commented he would address this head on, with a one on one conversation or with a team. He <br />stated he would get more parties involved if necessary. <br />
