Councilmember Jacobsen asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl indicated if this was a friend of his, he would still provide the same opinion and act in the same <br />manner. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council. <br />He asked how Mr. Nundahl would respond if he disagreed with a policy or Ordinance already in place. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl stated he would read through and try to better understand what the Ordinance was. He explained <br />he would talk to the Commission about this matter. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked what the City’s biggest challenges were. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl reported the biggest challenges were to get young people or young families with kids to live in <br />the community. He stated the community had a lot of elders and he wondered how the community would turn <br />over in time. He explained the City also had to address economic redevelopment and what direction the City <br />wanted to head in the future. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter asked if Max had followed the acquisition of the Old New Brighton Elementary School. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl commented he had been following this project and understood affordable housing, senior <br />housing, apartments and townhomes were being considered for this site. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter questioned what Max thought of this project. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl indicated he supported the project and understood the City needed a variety of housing stock. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if he was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility; <br />economic programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of <br />public safety. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl commented he was most interested in economic development. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br />appointments. She thanked Mr. Nundahl for his interest in serving and asked if he had any questions. <br /> <br />Mr. Nundahl asked what the timeline was for the Commission appointments. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter reported interviews would be held over the next few weeks by the City Council and noted <br />appointments would be made by April 1st. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Amelia Kuiper. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked Amelia to tell the Council a little bit about herself and her experiences in the <br />community. <br /> <br />Amelia Kuiper stated she attended Hamline University for undergrad and then went to law school. She worked <br />at Thompson Roitters in Eagan and moved to New Brighton four years ago. She stated she has been active in <br />elections with the primaries and general elections. She indicated she also tries to attend all of the Council open <br />house meetings.
