August 13, 2019 Page 5 of 5 <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Public Safety Commission met on Monday, August <br />12th. He explained the group received a great presentation on traffic issues in the City. He <br />stated he was really pleased to see the City was sponsoring safety camp again this year. He <br />invited the public to attend story time at the Public Safety Department in the fire apparatus <br />bays at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 16th. He thanked all who hosted and participated in <br />National Night Out parties. He indicated he was really proud of New Brighton’s residents and <br />their efforts get to know their neighbors. He reported Stockyard Days was a great success again <br />this year. He encouraged those interested in serving as a volunteer to consider assisting with <br />Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported the Community Center has hosted over 500 birthday parties this <br />year. She indicated the farmer’s market was held at the Community Center every Wednesday <br />from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. She stated the Community Center would be receiving an award <br />from RISE for being Partner of the Year. She thanked all of the residents who helped paint the <br />Beautiful Project mural at the Community Center. She explained the City would now be taking <br />organics recycling at the dumpster off of 5th Street and Old Highway 8. She noted bags were <br />available at the dumpster and reported this program was being sponsored by Ramsey County. <br />She indicated the Community Center would be closed September 3rd through September 6th. <br />She encouraged residents to attend a pop-up activity that will be sponsored in City parks <br />during that week. She reported a special event was being planned at the Eagles Nest for <br />Sunday, September 22nd from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for children with sensory needs. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson encouraged all residents to stop by the Community Center to see the mural that <br />was completed by 140 different residents from New Brighton. She thanked all residents who <br />participated in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6th noting it was a great success. She <br />thanked the Stockyard Days Committee members for all of their great efforts and encouraged <br />residents to be gracious with their feedback. She explained this organization was in need of <br />volunteers to assist with planning next year’s event.
