Consider Resolution approving a Special Use Permit for the City of New <br />Brighton to relocate an existing salt shed on the Public Works site at 700 5th <br />Street SW. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Dunsworth to adopt a Resolution <br />approving a Special Use Permit for the City of New Brighton to relocate an existing salt <br />shed on the Public Works site at 700 5th Street SW with conditions. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter indicated Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola would be <br />presenting this item to the Council. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola stated the City of New Brighton is <br />seeking authorization to move the existing salt shed building at 700 5th Street NW to a new location on the <br />eastern portion of the property adjacent to an existing structure. Movement of the salt shed is needed to <br />accommodate the recently approved Midtown Village development and its potential need for additional <br />parking. Staff provided further comment on the request and recommended approval. <br />Councilmember Burg pointed out the expense for the relocation of the salt shed would be covered by the <br />Midtown Village developer and not taxpayer dollars. She appreciated the fact the City was moving forward <br />with this SUP in order to make room for more parking for the Midtown Village project. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />2. Consideration of Resolution approving a Special Use Permit authorizing an indoor/outdoor <br />warehousing and assembly facility for above ground storage tanks at 3595 New Brighton <br />Road. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Dunsworth to adopt a Resolution <br />approving a Special Use Permit authorizing an indoor/outdoor warehousing and assembly facility for <br />above ground storage tanks at 3595 New Brighton Road with conditions. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter indicated Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola would be <br />presenting this item to the Council. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola explained Zahl Petroleum is seeking <br />to clear the site at 3595 New Brighton Road and construct a new warehousing & assembly <br />facility for their above-ground storage tank business. A portion of this property sits in the City <br />of Arden Hills which will require (potentially) a separate approval from the neighboring <br />jurisdiction if the owner wishes to extend their use over the municipal boundary. Staff <br />provided further comment on the SUP and reported the Planning Commission recommended <br />approval of the request. <br />Councilmember Allen thanked the new business owner for taking on this project and for <br />working to improve the site. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth stated she was happy to see this area being redeveloped.
