It was noted 464 youth have been served with 331
being from New Brighton. The mission of CPY was to provide youth with the following: a safe place after
school and over the summer months, to provide opportunities to connect with positive adult role models, equip
youth with life and social skills, and to empower youth through leadership. She talked about the importance of
equipping youth for success with team building and positive conflict resolution skills. She reflected on the
educational opportunities that were created with local business owners. She commented on a community
garden project that CPY completed with APi and a local master gardener. She discussed the importance of
having local partners and thanked the City for their continued support. She then reviewed CPY’s budget and
sources of revenue.

Councilmember Dunsworth asked if CPY would continue to have a working relationship with JMA. Mr.
White reported this was the case. He commented the plan would be for JMA to become self-sustaining and for
the cities to withdraw their support over time.

Mayor Johnson encouraged CPY to update their crime statistics in order to present a fair picture. She stated
she would like to see how many CPY kids go on to graduate, or take pre-college classes. Ms. Stewart thanked
the Mayor for this input. She commented on how difficult it was to pull information together from the
transient nature of these kids and noted some of the information was protected and could not be shared outside
of the organization. She discussed how her programming has become more focused to meet the changing needs
of the youth.

Mayor Johnson commended Ms. Stewart for growing in this business. She was encouraged by the increased
programming being offered by CPY and the recognition that CPY was receiving from other communities.

Councilmember Burg suggested CPY plan a reunion for kids that have wen through the program. Ms. Stewart
stated this was being considered in order to foster and continue to build relationships.
