November 12, 2019 Page 2 of 5 <br />worksession minutes from the October 22, 2019 meeting. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Allen to approve the <br />minutes from the October 22, 2019 meeting. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Johnson received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br /> Public Safety Commission Minutes from June 10, 2019. <br /> Public Safety Commission Minutes from August 12, 2019. <br /> Economic Development Commission Minutes from October 2, 2019. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br />1. Rise Community Partner of the Year Award <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation Director Fink stated Rise operates an award-winning adult day care program at the New <br />Brighton Community Center. The program operates in four YMCA/Community Centers throughout the <br />Twin Cities. Since the inception of the program at the New Brighton Community Center, Rise, City Staff and <br />the Council has had a rich and productive relationship. The great relationship has led to the large success of <br />the Adult Day Program at the NBCC location, resulting in the program size tripling in just over a year. In an <br />effort to recognize the partnership between Rise and the City, on October 21 at the 8th annual Celebrate Rise <br />Gala, the City was awarded a Community Partner of the Year award. This award was accepted by Council <br />Member Burg and Director Fink. It is also worth noting that one of the NBCC's favorite Rise Participants, <br />Jacob McMahon, also received one of the Organization's "Rise'ing Star" awards. We were grateful to have <br />the opportunity to celebrate with him, staff and his family. She thanked the Council for allowing Rise to be <br />located in the Community Center and presented the City Council with the plaque from Rise. <br />Councilmember Burg stated it was her honor to attend the Rise awards banquet with Director Fink. <br />Mayor Johnson stated she was proud of the great work the Parks Department was doing to create an inclusive <br />community. She congratulated Director Fink for her great efforts on behalf of the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />2. Recognition of Eric Volk as MNAWWA Past-Chair <br /> <br />Bill Schlones, chair of MNAWWA, stated Public Works Superintendent Eric Volk served as the <br />Minnesota Section of the American Water Works Association Section Chair for the past year. In 2016, Eric w <br />as elected by the members of the section to serve a three‐year term: chair‐elect, chair, and past‐chair. From <br />September 2018 to September 2019, Eric represented the section as Section Chair on a local level. Eric has <br />also served in the capacity as the Technical and Education Council Chair, Professional Operator <br />Development Committee Member, and Small Systems Committee Member. In September 2019, Eric <br />transitioned from chair to past‐chair, and was also elected as the Section Director. As Section Director, he <br />will represent the Minnesota Section on the American Water Works Association Board of Johnson. A round <br />of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />Eric Volk thanked the Council, City Manager Lotter and Director Schlichting for their support. <br />Mayor Johnson stated she appreciated Mr. Volk’s efforts on behalf of the City. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Mr. Volk for his efforts to create clean drinking water for the residents of <br />New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked Mr. Volk for taking on the challenge of the City’s new water treatment plant. <br />She believed the City of New Brighton was fortunate to have him and she was proud of his efforts. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br />1.
