February 11, 2020 Page 6 of 6 <br />Mayor Johnson reported the City received over 30 applications for the City Manager position <br />and the Council would be working to hone this down to the top four candidates to attend the <br />Meet and Greet. She thanked the New Brighton Historical Society for their recent presentation <br />on ice harvesting and ice castles. She encouraged residents to consider becoming a member of <br />the Historical Society. She noted the Historical Society would be celebrating the 100th <br />Anniversary of the Pletcher Family in April. She provided the Council with an update from <br />the Five Cities Mayors group. She stated there were still residents that needed to change out <br />their water meters. She requested residents with an old water meter to call the City ASAP to <br />have their water meter changed out. <br />Mayor Johnson commented on the situation that has occurred at the Pike Lake Apartment <br />complex. She explained this complex was purchased by QT Properties in December of 2019. <br />She noted the site would be rehabilitated and the current tenants were being displaced. She <br />thanked staff for working with the County to line up resources for these displaced residents. <br />She reported the original 60 notices have been extended 30 more days. She noted staff would <br />be drafting a letter on behalf of the City Council to encouraged QT Properties to allow the <br />residents to remain onsite through May 31st. She thanked Councilmember Allen for all of his <br />efforts on this topic. She indicated this was a difficult situation and stated there just was not <br />enough naturally occurring affordable housing in New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Allen thanked the members of the faith community for stepping up and <br />helping folks living at Pike Lake Apartments. He thanked Mayor Johnson and City Manager <br />Massopust for trying to find resources to help these individuals. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Ramsey County for their strong partnership as well. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked staff and Councilmember Allen for addressing this concern on <br />behalf of the community.
