February 11, 2020 Page 5 of 6 <br /> <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Devin Massopust <br />Acting City Manager Massopust reported the passport office was now open to the public. He <br />hoped the passport office would be open on Saturdays in March. He explained a neighborhood <br />meeting focusing on City Services would be held at Hansen Park on Thursday, February 20th at <br />6:00 p.m. He stated there has been some interest in Block B within the New Brighton <br />Exchange and more information would be coming to the Council in the near future. He <br />reported the legislative session began today and noted the whistle free zone in New Brighton <br />was being considered. He indicated the City recently assisted the Bartz Brothers with taking <br />down the snow sculpture. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported she was the City’s representative to Metro Cities. She <br />described the work this advocacy group was completing on behalf of New Brighton. She <br />stated PREC met on Wednesday, February 3rd where the Park Strategic Master Plan was <br />discussed. She sent her condolences to former Mayor David Jacobson’s family. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Public Safety Commission met on Monday, February <br />10th where the group discussed parking restrictions on 1st Avenue NW and Campus Drive. He <br />stated he appreciated the discussion that was held by this group and the way this group runs. <br />He reminded the public to drive safely through the community while construction was <br />occurring on I-35W as there was more traffic in the City. He stated he too was saddened by <br />the passing of former Mayor Dave Jacobson and sent his condolences to the Jacobson family. <br />He explained Mayor Jacobson was a tremendous mentor and asset to the community and <br />would be dearly missed. He thanked staff for the great discussion that was held at the <br />worksession meeting regarding the City’s strategic plan. He encouraged those interested in <br />serving the community to consider applying for an open Commission position. He explained <br />the ice castles are still at Long Lake Park and encouraged residents to get out and take <br />advantage of this unique community event. He introduced his wife, Denise and a foreign <br />exchange student who was staying with his family from Japan. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported stated he was looking forward to the City Services Expo that <br />would be held at Hansen Park on Thursday, February 20th at 6:00 p.m. He reported the EDC <br />would meet next on Wednesday, March 4th at 7:30 a.m. in the City Conference Room. He sent <br />his condolences to the Jacobson family and thanked former Mayor David Jacobson for his <br />dedicated public service to the community. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson stated former Mayor David Jacobson was always very supportive and kind to <br />her and she sent her condolences to the entire Jacobson family. She encouraged the public to <br />attend the City Services Expo on Thursday, February 20th at Hansen Park at 6:00 p.m. She <br />noted the Tuesday, February 25th Council worksession meeting has been moved to Thursday, <br />February 27th. She explained the Tuesday, March 3rd Council worksession has been moved to <br />Monday, March 2nd.
